K(ARTS) & KRAFTS

Flight Kraft

Name: Okrispeous (inspired by the Greek God Odysseus)

Description: She's a tailless bird with downward winglets

Height: 8 ft (Matt + 20 ish inches)

Wing Dimensions: 24 feet by 9 ft (span x chord)

Weight: 80 lbs

Projected Distance: 130 ft. Or perhaps world record? Planetary orbit? May the winds ever be in our favor.

Materials:

  • Mylar: originally developed for old cassette tapes, we found a use for it in our wing skin. It's thin, light, and strong - everything we need

  • Home Depot Foam: cut with a hot wire and a laser cut template, this standard insulation foam will be used as our wing ribs.

  • Wood: what can you used wood for? Everything

  • Composites: gives us support and stiffening where we need it. Looking to use fiberglass cloth and uni-directional carbon

  • Depron: this is used for our leading edge of the wing. With a little hot water and magic, you can bend this thing like Beckham

Launch Kart

Name: Old Betsy (named after Elliott's trusty drill press)

Description: Come gameday, our launch kart will send our airkraft and pilot into orbit. All of this will be veiled as a dancing boot, fitting our 90's dance hits theme

Dimensions: 5' x 5' x 4' (LWH)

Weight:

Projected Top Speed: 14 MPH

Materials: No secret sauce in our cart. Just some 2x4s, nuts and bolts, and some old bike wheels. Secret sauce is in the horse power of the crew.
